For the boys birthdays I’ve had fun going all mom-zilla on their parties. Well I guess money, time, and energy kept me from going truly crazy…but it was fun to come up with an off the wall idea and then execute it.
Big brother’s party was an old school dance party so I made a pinata to look like a disco ball, drew break dancers on a gigantic piece of paper and let the kids color it, busted out the instruments and taught the kids to hiphop (sorta). But I ran out of time to do the felt boombox for photo booth props, handmade t-shirts for favors, or shrinky dinks for a craft.
For the little ones party the theme was a little man party with a sort of vintage circusy feel. Chicken strips and dip bar (ginger teriyaki, honey mustard, ketchup, chipotle mayonnaise, etc), sweet potato fries, root beer floats, and an amazing (according to me) apple cake. Mustaches, ties, a pin the mustache on the gigantic boy (printed at staples as a blueprint for about $4.00), mustache crayons and CD mixes as favors, our friend playing Beatles favorites on the guitar…it was a good night.
