Smells

Mothballs

There is one key smell that never fails to remind me of here. Can you guess what it is? No it’s not mosquito coils,
woodsmoke,
mold + mildew,
peanut sauce,
warm rice,
hot trash,
sandlewood,
minyak kayu putih (eucalyptus oil’s cousin),
warm dirt after the rain,
Raid cockroach spray,
Rapika (an ironing spray)….

It’s mothballs! Did you guess it? It’s the local equivalent to Lysol. Most bathrooms have a small little bucket full of them to “freshen” the air. You’ll see several sitting in unobtrusive corners of a room…You can get them in colors and shapes. I’m missing out because our bathroom still doesn’t have any.
