Harvesting Shallots

The main cash crops in the mountains around here are: shallots (baby red onions), little red peppers, chocolate, and rattan. Some people are starting to plant cloves, but they take a long term, forward thinking mindset, so not everyone has gotten into that yet.
I mentioned before that gardens are on the side of the mountain. I wasn’t joking. I often get a bit of vertigo just walking around, let alone bending down, and pulling up onions.

Take a look at this steepness.

Shallots are fantastic all fried up. If you are interested, we sell them to help benefit the dorm for school kids.

Yep, steep.

Finished harvesting, heading home.

Stopping to wash up at the spring.
